Bionic Flying Wing
The Bionic Flying Wing project combines bionic steering mechanisms with the morphing of composite airplane structures.
In the current year, a team of eight ambitious mechanical engineering students is designing, constructing, and building a demonstrator of a flying wing which is steered with a bionically inspired control concept. Integrated in the CMAS-Lab of ETH Zurich under the direction of Prof. Dr. Paolo Ermanni, they benefit from outstanding know-how in the design and production of composite structures for aviation.
The integration of a morphing concept into the aircraft will improve the aerodynamic properties and efficiency of the aircraft, replacing conventional control surfaces on the airplanes of tomorrow.
