CMASLab Team Spring 2022

We are teaching and researching in the field of engineering structures.

History

The Composite Materials and Adaptive Structures Lab was founded in 1998 by Prof. Ermanni with the name Centre of Structure Technologies. Since July 1st, 2013 we are member of the newly established Institute of Design, Materials and Fabrication (IDMF) together with Prof. Shea and Prof. Meboldt. Those three Chairs share a common vision in research, teaching and relationship to industry.

Team

The group currently comprises: 1 Professor, 4 Senior Scientists, 13 Research Assistants/Doctoral Students, around 47 Master Students, 1 Administrative Assistant and 1 Laboratory Technician. The figures include those of Inspire ICS (ICS: Innovative Composite Structures), which is the Competence Center of Inspire AG for Composite Technologies. Inspire ICS was established 2008 to further improve and facilitate technology and knowledge transfer to the industry, taking over from the Chair the definition and implementation of more applied collaborative projects with Swiss Companies. Our activities

Our research is focused in design, modeling and fabrication of adaptive material systems and composites structures for application in lightweight systems. Our approach combines experimental techniques, analytical and numerical methods to understand, simulate and verify the physical behavior of the developed solutions. Read more

Teaching is concentrating in the higher Semesters, i.e. starting from the 3rd Year. We currently offer over 15 courses, including Engineering Tools and Laboratory tutorials, as well as student’s and focus projects. Students are strongly integrated in our research activities and industrial collaborations and are closely working together with PhD students. Read more
