Pappas, Georgios, Dr.
ETH Senior Assistant/ Deputy Head of CMASLab
Georgios Pappas is an ETH Senior Assistant and Deputy Head of CMASLab. His research focuses, among others, on Structural mechanics and design, mechanics of Composites materials, Damage characterization and modeling as well as Biomechanics and applications. Projects that he is involved in relate with durability analysis of advanced structures that combine advanced manufacturing techniques and FRP materials, biomechanics and design of biomedical applications, and aerospace lightweight design.
Before joining CMASLab and ETHZ, he was a post-doctoral researcher at EPFL in the Laboratory of Applied Mechanics and Reliability Analysis, where he focused in failure of composite materials and interfaces using advanced experimental and modeling techniques.
He received his PhD from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, focusing on traction-separation relations in fracture of layered composites. Prior to this, he obtained his Mechanical Engineering degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) in Greece, where he also worked as a research fellow in the Laboratory of Machine Elements and Machine Design of AUTh.
